Introduction
The 560E is a capable ultra-portable machine, but lacks booting options. I used a PCMCIA CF card reader and a PCMCIA wired network card to install Ubuntu. A bare minimum install of Ubuntu requires 32MB RAM. Consider adding a 64MB stick to your 560E to fully load it with 80MB RAM.
2GB of disk space is required for a typical install. The 560E can handle drives at least up to 8GB and possibly larger.
Preparation
- Get an Ubuntu netboot image
- Insert card reader into another Linux laptop
dd if=boot.img of=/dev/sdb
- Change boot order on 560E to PCMCIA then hard disk
- Insert card reader and network card and start machine
