Hi. I'm Chris. My first PC (after an Apple //c) was a ThinkPad 750P purchased new. I sold that, and after a few years, the friend I sold it to gave it back to me. I have had many ThinkPads over the years, and never any other laptop. I also have a couple IBM servers in the house. Awesome machines, each one.

Currently I have that 750P, a 560E, a 570, and a 600X that I tweaked by installing an 800MHz CPU and internal WiFi antennae.

Latest status:
 +
* 750P - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS installed. No GUI attempted as of yet.
 +
* 600X - Used sometimes for testing latest distributions.
 +
* T60 - Daily use running Fedora 8 for web development, and Windows Vista for games.
 +
* 560E and 570 just sit around collecting dust at the moment.

My wife has a 600X. Her sister has an X22. Their mom has a 600E, as does my dad. I take care of all of them.
+
ThinkPads in the family I maintain:
 +
* X22, 600E, A30

Two of my friends recently bought 600X's too. One runs only Linux!

Linux still doesn't work perfectly on any of my ThinkPads, but I hope to get there some day.

I've got Linux on all four of my 'Pads. The 750P is currently a print server using Samba and Slackware, but it is too slow even for that. The 560E will be the new print server. The 570 will be a home audio player. All three currently have Slackware and FreeDOS installed (for running PS2.EXE).

The 600X is my general web-surfing, e-mail, bill paying machine. It has an OS from Redmond and Fedora Core 5.

I recently acquired a T60. It's a very nice machine almost up to the build quality of the 600X, and a good bit heavier. I've started to do my part to update these pages with my experience on it. It's running Windows XP (soon to upgrade to Vista)(boo! hiss! I know, but it's for work... and maybe some gaming), but I plan to boot almost exclusively into Fedora.

The 600X has died. The CMOS battery died while a supervisor password was set (and yes I do know what it is), but after replacing the battery, the system continuously reboots before even looking at the hard drive. I've tried everything I can think of, which isn't a lot.

The 570 is a fairly nice music player, but it can't suspend and resume automatically, and startup takes so very long that it doesn't get used much.

As of now, the 750P and 560E aren't getting any use. The graphics chip on the 750P isn't supported, but I'd like to get that to work, along with the pen. That would be a kick.

The blank page is a scary thing...

Linux still doesn't work perfectly on any of my ThinkPads, but I hope to get there some day.
