Video card upgrades for R32?

Does anyone knows if there is a way to upgrade video card on R32?

Too bad that Thinkpad Dock II (2877 - the one with PCI card socket) does not support R32.

As far as I know, people with Dells were able to upgrade their ATI RADEON MOBILITY 7000 to RADEON MOBILITY 9000 (pulled from newer models). But can't seem to find any information about upgrading video card on R32...

No, the R32's graphics chip can't be upgraded via that method. Those Dell laptops had placed their graphics chip on a separate daughterboard, which is connected to the motherboard. That is why they were able to swap it out for something better, but this is not the case for the R32. The R32 has its graphics chip soldered on the motherboard, instead. This means that you can't swap it out, unless you have a BGA rework station and the R32's datasheet to figure out what (better) graphics chips are compatible with the BGA696 pin layout.

Since the Mobility Radeon 7000 is on a BGA696 package, that means the R32 can be theoretically maxed out with the Mobility Radeon 7500 (BGA696). But remember, this is all theory speak, and that means it might not work in real life. --Bugmenot2 (talk) 17:22, 8 November 2018 (CET)
