Jjjjjjjjjj's experience

Debian 9.4.0 (Stretch) was installed successfully on my ThinkPad X41; however, the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG device needs non-free files. I followed the Debian installation instructions here and so installed that driver.

The ThinkPad X41 goes back to summer of 2005 (ThinkPad X41 Specs - CNET) and so following the guidance here at Linux.com on lightweight setups I went with LXDE.

Perhaps for a future device I could seek to plan for a GNU approved all free software setup.

Some people reported here on a Dell forum that they had problems with the Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG device and WPA/WPA2. I also had problems when using my Inspiron 1545 and openSUSE running the wireless access point; however, running with the default WPA2 security on a Netgear N300 Wireless Router WNR2000V4 it worked okay.
