Installing Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) on a ThinkPad T61
General Information

Video 2D/3D
- NVidia (Quadro NVS 140M): works (needs proprietary driver for hardware acceleration)
WiFi
- Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN: works
- Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG: works
- Front switch (airplane mode): works by default
Ethernet (Intel Gigabit): works
Special Keys (volume, Fn-, ThinkVantage):
- ThinkVantage button: go to System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts and assign a task to it.
- Fn-F5 (Wireless/Bluetooth): works by default
- Fn-F8 (Enable/Disable touchpad): works with small bug, see http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/380741/comments/15
- Fn.F4 (Sleep button) works by default with Ubuntu and proprietary NVidia driver
Touchpad: works
Touchpoint: works
Fingerprint reader: works (sort of)
The scanner works, but (in X windows) you need to hit "Enter" after doing a scan.
ACPI
- Suspend: works by default, but is unresponsive for ~10 sec after resume: http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/346310
- Hibernate: not working by default (beta1)
Installing smart-notifier package will crash the X server (https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/562456).
Bluetooth: works by default
DVD Drive
- Ultrabay Slim Super Multi-Burner Drive : works
Audio (AD1984 HD): works
- Headphones: works
- Microphone: works
Card Reader: not tested
Tested: Needed tweaking to obtain full functionality
WiFi
- Atheros Communications Inc. AR5212: Kernel panic (flashing caps lock) with Ath5k and Network Manager. Uninstall NM and installing WICD seems to have resolved for now. System working fine before upgrading from Karmic.
