In my case, on a X60 (1709-CTO) it seems that the latest BIOS update (2.14, dated October 2007 on lenovo.com) has regressed this issue. It was not present before but it definitely showed up now.

Applying the lenovo ethtool-based patch seems to have fixed it, i.e. it has survived a couple of reboots. Before applying the ethtool patch, I could make this go away by toggling the network adapter in the BIOS config: Disable adapter, save and exit, reenter config, enable adapter, save and exit. However the fix was only "temporary" in that it didn't survive more than one reboot.

If anyone can point me to the appropriate contact/channel/mailing list where Lenovo can be re-reminded of this I'd appreciate it.
