Summary

This page provides info on setting up Debian on the Thinkpad Z61p.

Discussion

This page is provided as a minimal guide to getting Debian installed on a Z61p with minimal changes to the system, leaving the existing Windows installation intact. It will consist of the following primary steps: #Preparing the Machine for the Installation, #Download and Initial Install of Debian, #Setting up the Dual Boot Environment, and #Finalizing Debian Installation.

There are two notable pieces of hardware in this machine that will warrant further attention because they require special firmware drivers in order to operate: the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 which requires the Fglrx driver and the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Mini-PCI Express Adapter http://ipw3945.sourceforge.net both of which are easily dealt with using Debian's module assistant utility.
