T43 1871-F1G (bought December 2005) In the right part of the foreground is a piece of copper that serves to cool what I gather is the Northbridge. Interesting because some units seem to not have it. I found that it was not fastend, but rather loose, just lying on top of the chip. To fix this, I cut a small piece of heat shrink tube and used it to gently press the copper sheet down onto the northbridge. It's the small black thing you can see in the center of the picture.
