The E series (formerly Edge series, also formerly Edge E series) was developed as a direct successor of the discontinued SL series, which was a consumer-orientated successor of the long-gone R series. The E series continues to apply the design principles that was used in the earlier SL series models, mainly from the SL300, SL400, and the SL500. This is clearly visible, as it generally appears to be very similar to the IdeaPads, which was what the SL series was based on.

ThinkPad E series

The E series (formerly Edge series, also formerly Edge E series) was developed as a direct successor of the discontinued SL series, which was a consumer-orientated successor of the long-gone R series. The E series continues to apply the design principles that was used in the earlier SL series models, mainly from the SL300, SL400, and the SL500. This is clearly visible, as it generally appears to be very similar to the IdeaPads, which was what the SL series was based on.
