Display hotplug
Thinkpads have hardware support for polling the displays connected to video outputs and reconfiguring the video outputs accordingly. Software support for this in Linux depends on the following:
- X.org Server package version 1.3 or above, containing the new Xrandr 1.2 output hotplug capable framework
- Xrandr 1.2 client utility
- Hotplug support in the X.org video driver for your GPU chip
Display hotplug on Thinkpads with ATI Radeon Mobility GPUs
Hotplug support is available in development Git versions of the xf86-video-ati driver for X.org.
