DVD and Enhanced Video Adapter (DEVA)

This is a properitary card that gives the laptop video capture, video output and hardware MPEG2 playback, along with digital audio (AC3) out.

Features

  • Chipsets: IBM MPEGCD1M, SAA7111A, CSA8404A
  • MPEG-1, MPEG-2 Hardware decoding
  • Video In (PAL or NTSC)
  • Video Out (composite and SVideo) to PAL or NTSC
  • Dolby Digital AC-3
  • Interface: via. Trident video chipset? Not a PCI device.

MPEG Hardware Decoding

Uses the IBM MPEGCD1M with 2MB SDRAM running at 100MHz
There is already a driver in the kernel tree that uses this chipset (stradis), so some of the work may already be done.

This component is not supported under Linux

Video In

Uses a SAA7111A chip, for which Linux has a driver. But last I tried this (a few years ago) it did not work.

Video Out

Uses a SAA7111A chip, for which Linux has a driver. But last I tried this (a few years ago) it did not work.

But User:Lentinj reports:
Probably not going to extend further than the TV out, which is controllable via BIOS. No projects as far as I know exist to support this card under Linux.

Dolby Digital AC-3

Uses the CSA8404A chip
Supports AC-3 Audio pass-through to an external AC3 decoder/amplifier
Linux has no support for this chip
