ThinkPad Edge 13" SeriesThis page gives an overview of all ThinkPad Edge 13" Series. The Edge 13" exists both in Intel and AMD processor models. ThinkPad Edge 13" (Intel)Standard Features
Distribution Support (0196 model)This section covers the 0196 model with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Common to all distributions should be the following two issues:
Refer to the linlap entry [1] for details.
(K)Ubuntu 10.04 LTSSee: Installing Kubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) on a ThinkPad Edge 13" (Intel) Ubuntu 10.10Ubuntu 10.10 out-of-the-box supports pretty much all this machine's hardware, including:
What doesn't work:
OpenSUSE 11.3OpenSUSE 11.3 supports this model out-of-the-box, including 3D desktop effects, hibernate, built-in webcam and wireless. A workaround to enable the the built-in microphone is to add the following line at the beginning of /etc/modprobe.d/50-sound.conf:
Distribution Support (0217 model)This section covers the 0217 model with an Intel Core i3 processor. At least some models feature a Realtek 8188CE wireless MiniPCI express card which only just recently got official support in Linux (as of December 2010). The adapter is sold as ThinkPad 11a/b/g, but it is not the same adapter as either of the three other adapters sold under that same name. Please refer to the ThinkPad 11b/g/n Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Express Adapter III page for driver details. The Intel 1000 wireless card requires Ubuntu 10.10 or later, it seems, where the touchpad multi touch works fine at least under KDE4. The hardware otherwise resembles the 0196 model so the issues mentioned for that model may also apply here. Linux Mint Debian EditionAt least the basic features like suspend/resume, frequency scaling, wired networking, HDMI video and trackpad/trackpoint work out of the box. The wireless network interface was not supported by default at the time of writing, but it was possible to make it work with the compat-wireless driver and the default linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64 kernel. Now that the 2.6.38 kernel with full wlan driver support is available in Debian testing the problem can be solved by simply upgrading to that kernel. Remaining hardware is not yet tested. r ThinkPad Edge 13" (AMD)Machine Type
