why was my change (unfortunately not logged in at the time) undone? My T43p does have that chipset.

ok, I just saw the Ricoh_R5C811 page, but since I don't have firewire, is it still that chipsed in my T43p?

Yes it is, it just 'emulates' the old R5C476-II for backward compatibility and for the firewire part, they just disable that function of the chip on some models.
I will try to clean this up/clarify it later today.
