Linux X.Org driver
Use Driver "radeon" in the xorg.conf file - it works at least for xorg 6.8.2, maybe older versions too.
Poor refresh times with xorg may be improved by using the "fglrx" driver instead of "ati" or "radeon".
ThinkPad LCD
Display on the internal LCD works as long as you set the monitor settings correct.
