Revision as of 21:06, 24 December 2010
I think this pages needs to be cleaned up regarding what words are used - the problem being that screen and display are used as if they where the same. I'm one of those really happy about the great parts xrandr1.2 has given us with regards to dual screen stuff, but equally sad that it doesn't support more than one display. (I can no longer have two displays working independently, which is a regression back to what windows users have.) I'll do this rewriting next time I'm up too late unless someone tells me not to, or if someone else gets to it before I do. :)

Gratitude
I have been reading these pages for xrandr multiple screens.
I have been searching for months for clear relevant information.
I am very pleased to be able to say that at last, at the very last, I have succeeded in setting up dual monitors in Ubuntu 9.04 (#CrunchBang Linux)
What impresses me is the clarity of the descriptive script having regard to the vagaries of the set ups usually offered.
I find that the lower Menu Bar is retained on both screens, and further, that each menu bar on each screen retains the chosen number of Desktop Windows. In that event there are as many individual desktops available to both screens as one chooses to establish.
[edit] This is a hip hip hooray Christmas Eve and here I found there is a Santa Claus after all.
btw my laptop is an older Fujitsu that has the earlier 88xx device and this has been accommodated perfectly
Many, many thanks
