Configuration of the system:
- Thikpad t43p - 2668-WQL
- Processor : Pentium M 2.0GHz
- Video Card : ATI fireGL v3200, 128Mb ram , with 15" 1600x1200 resolution
- Wireless : Atheros chipset
- Others : Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, and other standard stuff
Installation of Suse Linux 9.3
ATTENTION!
After this installation, I lost the Access IBM button functionality at the boot stage. But the recovery partition is still working and it appears in the Grub boot menu
The installation is quite straight forward. Most of the components are working out of the box.
Works out of the box :
- CPU, Power management related stuff
- Hard disk & DVD-R (Suse's kernel is already patched for SATA disks, so you won't need to patch it)
- Wireless
- Bluetooth
- Thinklight and volume buttons
- Thouchpad & trackpoint
NOTE!
Power Management, Wireless and Trackpoint need to be configured after the installation. But it's quite simple.
NOT Working out of the box :
- Video Card. Although you get a correct resolution (1600x1200) after the installation, ATI driver coming from Suse is out of date, and the opensource driver does not provide 3D acceleration.
- Fn buttons
