Realtek Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000)

This is a Realtek Ethernet chip that is integrated on the systemboard of select ThinkPads.

Features

  • 10Base-T, 100Base-T and 1000Base-T support

Linux support

These Ethernet chips are supported by the r8169 driver

If you find that the driver included with your Linux distribution is not stable, you may have to download the driver directly from Realtek and compile it yourself.

In the Thinkpad Edge 11" (Intel) the driver crashes really often (at least with Kernel 2.6.36). Please use the proprietary driver r8168 from Realtek instead.
